Your favourite Italian plumber returns for another romp around the galaxy. Is this sequel out of this world? Or is 2 too soon? Check out our review to find out!
Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a pure 3D Mario game through and through. You can read the dialogue that pops up now and then, but no one really cares about the story. Enjoyment in this game comes from being able to run and jump around on various levels.
New to Super Mario Galaxy 2
This sequel is very much the same as the first Super Mario Galaxy. The graphics and controls are exactly the same and you will be going through the levels hunting for stars again. However, this is not a bad thing, since it is everything that made the first game so fun. New features include the addition of Yoshi and two new mushrooms: Cloud and Rock.
Some levels will also have you doing something other than Mario's usual acrobatics. For example, there are a few levels that are similar to playing Monkey Ball. Your drop-in-drop-out partner has a few new things to do as well. They can now help you collect coins and 1up mushrooms and also grab and shake some enemies. It's not that much, but it does give them some more things to do.
Out of this World
Nintendo really shows how to make a game fun. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is all about the level design, which are a blast to go through. Moving between levels is a bit faster now on the Mario spaceship. There will be a few parts that will really test your skills, but there are lots of extra lives to help you get through them and, if you are in a real bind, there are the built-in walkthroughs where the game will show you how to get past a hard part.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 is just as good as the first game and is definitely worthwhile buying and playing. Highly recommended.
