Loved the movie? Iron Man 2 for the Wii puts Tony Stark and War Machine in a new mission! Check our review to see if this iron can be turned to gold.
SEGA's Iron Man 2 is the official game for the blockbuster movie. However, unlike most other licensed games, the story in the game does not follow the plot from the movie. Instead, the events in the game takes place after the movie. Even if you have not seen the movie yet, you can still enjoy the game. Best of all, no spoilers!
Iron Man 2, Round 2
The writer for Marvel's Invincible Iron Man comic was brought on board to write the story for the game. Bad guys are trying to steal a copy of JARVIS, Tony Stark's AI butler. Their goal is to use it for their giant robot, Ultimo, who can meld with humans and also heal itself. In the game, you get to play as War Machine or as one of several different Iron man suits.
The game plays over eight chapters that mix different places, indoors and outdoors. However, the levels are all basically the same, use your weapons and suit to destroy whatever is thrown at you: robots, tanks, helicopters, etc. At first, this is definitely fun. However, after five hours, it can get boring.
You can upgrade your suit and weapons for combos and new ammo types. The upgrading system is a bit confusing, but gives you something to do. The game itself is pretty easy and short. You can replay the levels with different suits and customize them in different ways, but in the end, it is still the same thing over and over again.
Not a Precious Metal
Overall, Iron Man 2 is disappointing. The controls can get weird, especially with flying. The graphics for the suits are pretty good, but the faces and backgrounds are hard to look at. For big Iron Man fans, this might be a good game to rent, especially since you can finish the game in three or four sittings.
