Yun Zi, the San Diego Zoo's five-month-old giant panda cub, was as cute as can be in his debut to the media on January 5, 2010. Check out the photos snapped of this cutie at the event!
About Yun Zi
San Diego Zoo keepers have waited longer to place Yun Zi on display to the public than they did with his older siblings, brother Mei Sheng and sisters Hua Mei, Su Lin and Zhen Zhen. Unlike his brother and sisters, Yun Zi (whose name means Son Of Cloud) was pretty shy and wanted to stay in the den with his mom instead of explore outdoors until recently.
But even though he’s often out and about these days, you may miss seeing Yun Zi if you go to visit him at the zoo because of the little panda cub’s sleeping schedule. Keepers have noted that when they come in at 6 a.m., he is often busily tumbling around. Unfortunately, the zoo doesn't open at 6 a.m., and by the time grounds open, Yun Zi is usually sound asleep in his den.
To get him ready for his big debut, keepers have been working with him to change his schedule so that he wakes up a few hours later. Even so, the zoo cautions panda fans that, although his exhibit will be open daily from 9 a.m. to noon, there are no guarantees that Yun Zi will be awake!
