Candace Cameron Bure is back on the small screen in the new ABC series Make It Or Break It. Check out Candace’s interview with Kidzworld!
Candace Cameron Bure made her mark on pop culture history when she starred as DJ in the 80’s sitcom, Full House. After taking a break from acting to get married (to hockey star Valeri Bure) and raise her kids, Cameron is back on the small screen in the new ABC series, Make It Or Break It.
Make It Or Break It
Make It Or Break It follows aspiring gymnasts as they deal with the stress that high levels of competition place on them and their families. Candace Cameron Bure plays Summer, the girlfriend of Lauren’s dad. Summer wants the relationship to work, but Lauren doesn’t make it easy. “Summer broke off the engagement at the end of the first half of the season,” says Candace, “so we’re all waiting to see what happens—whether they’re going to be together or not.” Candace promises “lots of drama, lots of gymnastics—it’s a fun show,” she says.
On Her Return To Acting
Candace says she’s always loved acting, but says, “I purposely stayed away [from acting] so I could be a stay-at-home mom and support my husband with his hockey career.” What changed Candace’s mind was a little more free time and a great script. “My husband retired from hockey so we just thought, hey, this would be a great time for me to go back into the business and work a little bit on projects that still fit into my schedule as a mom.” In the spring of last year, Candace says, “ABC came to me and said, hey, we’ve got this great show and we’d like you to be a part of it. I loved the concept and loved that it was about sports because sports has really been my life with my husband for the past thirteen years. Fitness is just a huge part of our lives as well, so that was just an instant connection for me. I love all the principles that go along with what these kids are training for—being so dedicated and disciplined—as a mom, those are things that I value.”
Reshaping Her Body, Soul And Spirit
In addition to acting and raising her kids, Candace found time to write a book. “Right now it’s titled Candace Cameron Bure: Reshaping my Body, Soul and Spirit,” Candace says, “it’s a book on healthy living.”
“It’s not a diet book—there’s tons of great diet stuff out there and ways to live and eat so I encourage everyone to pick a plan that they feel comfortable with and that works for them and their schedule—but what [my book is] is the motivation to stay committed [to fitness] because I think that’s where a lot of us lose it.
