Women’s volleyball, especially beach volleyball, is one of the most popular female sports and there is no doubt to who is the most dominating player… Misty May Treanor. Misty has accumulated more wins and tournament victories than any other volleyball player, and even though it is a team sport, her story proves why she is the greatest.
Born as a Beach Baby
Misty was born and raised in Santa Monica, one of the most popular beaches in Los Angeles. Both of her parents were professional athletes. Her mom was a tennis star and her dad was a member of the 1968 US National Volleyball Team. At the young age of only 8 years old, her and her dad played in her 1st beach volleyball tournament.
Misty Magic
Misty brought her high school two state championships and in college she led her teams to undefeated seasons and national championships. Her college, the Long Beach State 49ers, gave her the starting setter position and in 1998, Misty orchestrated the most amazing season, winning every game including the National championship game, which was the most thrilling women's volleyball come-from-behind victory in college history. After this game Misty’s name was famous and she was awarded the following awards:
- NCAA Player of the Year
- Top Female College Athlete
- Most Outstanding Player in the Championship game
Summer Olympics Setting
Misty finished college with a Bachelor of Kinesiology Degree, but her volleyball career switched from indoor to beach to make the sport fun again as the pressure of the National team was too demanding. It was a good choice because Misty has now become the most famous female volleyball player winning more games, tournaments and money than any other player. Her biggest accomplishments were winning the gold medals at the 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics with Kerri Walsh in Beach Volleyball.
Misty is now coaching volleyball at Irvine Valley College and making demonstration videos online to teach the proper techniques of volleyball. She has a Website that you can visit with videos, pictures and information all about volleyball.
