This week was the end of the road for five amazing dancers, and just the beginning for one. So You Think You Can Dance wrapped up its 6th season on Wednesday night when over 10 million Americans voted for their favorite dancers.
The Performance Show
On Tuesday night, the top 6 dancers from the season (Kathryn, Ryan, Ashleigh, Russell, Ellenore and Jakob) each performed three times with three different partners. We saw a Samba, Broadway, Contemporary-Jazz, Jazz, the Fox Trot, the Paso Doble, Contemporary, a Travis Wall Contemporary and Hip-Hop. For the first time this season, the married couple, Ryan and Ashleigh, had the opportunity to dance together. And Ashleigh called the moment “perfect.”
The Elimination Show
The two hour season finale was jam-packed with amazing performances: the memorable routines from the season, including Mollee and Nathan’s Bollywood routine, Ellenore and Legacy’s dangerous Travis Wall Contemporary piece, and so many more. The show also hosted a series of celebrity guests: Leona Lewis, Adam Lambert, Mary J. Blige, and Jennifer Lopez. J-Lo’s performance included some familiar back-up dancers—contestants from season 6 and her favorite dancers from seasons past.
And the Winner Is…
Throughout the show, host Kat Deely revealed the order of elimination. While all six were brilliant dancers, the top four were definitely the cream of the crop. Any of them could have taken home the prize. Here is the order of Wednesday night’s elimination:
After hearing his name announced, Russell showed a dramatic display of emotion. He tore his shirt from his body and fell to his knees, completely forgetting about his injury. He thanked his family, friends, America and the judges, but attributed his win to God.
Tommy The Clown says almost tearfully: "I'm Russell's biggest fan. He brought Krump to a wider audience than I could have ever imagined."
