Scooby's Start
Way back in 1969, a big brown dog and his teenage friends traveled around in a van solving mysteries. Since the success of the Saturday morning cartoon, Scooby, Shaggy, Velma, Fred and Dapne have become fixtures in pop culture—starring in numerous spin-offs like comic books, live action movies and yes, more cartoon series. Hello Mummy collects six episodes from Scooby-Doo Where Are You! in the order they were originally aired. Although this DVD is more of a Scooby snack than a whole meal—the entire series has already been released—it’s still a nice introduction to the characters.
Episodes
The Backstage Rage: A violin case full of counterfeit money gets Scooby and the gang mixed up with a wayward puppet troupe.
Bedlam in the Bigtop: The circus will have to close if the gang doesn’t figure out how to stop a menacing ghost clown from frightening away all the talent.
A Gaggle of Galloping Ghosts: The gang visits Franken Castle—the only castle ever imported stone by stone from Transylvnia—where they encounter a vampire, a werewolf and Frankenstein’s monster, all of whom try to scare the gang away and keep them from finding out a dark secret.
Scooby-Doo and a Mummy, Too: The gang helps their professor unearth the ancient mummy of Anka, but they’re worried about the legend that says the mummy will come to life and turn the person who tampered with his tomb into stone.
Bonus Episode: High Society Scooby from the new series Shaggy & Scooby-Doo: Get a Clue!
The Bottom Line:
While this seasonal pack of Scooby-Doo Where Are You! illustrates the classic show’s staying power, it seems like a bit of a cash grab to release only four episodes, and without any bonus features! Hello Mummy is a decent introduction to the series, but if you’re a big Scooby fan, it’d be better to snap up the reasonably priced season collection instead.
