Based on the Japanese Anime and card game/toy series of the same name, Bakugan Battle Brawlers brings you into the world of Bakugan in it’s story mode and allows up to four players to battle it out in the Bakugan arena for the first time in a video game.
The Build Up
Bakugan invites players to choose their own avatar and element to represent them in the game world and then the battles begin. Players select which Bakugan they want to use and send it out to capture cards. If two opposing Bakugan land on the same card they fight over it. Unfortunately, it’s not so much fighting, as it is one of three mini-games with timed button presses, a shooting gallery of your chosen emblem or a contest of who can shake the Wii-mote the fastest. Each fight only needs one of these mini-games to decide the winner and the length of time spent building up to each conflict far exceeds the time one actually spends battling.
The Battle
The battles don’t require heavy strategy, which will be good for some young Bakugan fans but disappointing to those seeking a collect-‘em-all game with more depth. Others will wish that the actual battles tested your skills more greatly and featured battling closer to Pokémon. To those people, I say Bakugan Battle Brawlers is not for you. This game was designed for young fans of the TV series and they will find much to enjoy here. Playing the battle mini-games with friends in the four-player arena is surely more enjoyable than playing against the computer, so for a Bakugan fanatic with other equally enthusiastic friends, this just may be the game for you.
