The second toughest week of the SYTYCD season has arrived. The top 6 dancers battled for their lives, each performing two couple routines, one solo routine and one group routine! That’s four different dance styles and choreographies in one week!
Performances
The guys opened the performance show with a strong, powerful, “Willy Wonka-inspired” piece which the judges just loved. They especially complimented Evan for keeping up with tough guys, Ade and Brandon.
Jeanine and Ade teamed up for the Samba and a Hip-Hop routine. According to the judges, their Samba started off strong…for about 15 seconds. Then everything fell apart. But Jeanine and Ade redeemed themselves with an awesome Hip-Hop routine about two friends getting evicted from their apartment.
Kayla and Brandon, two of the competition’s strongest dancers, performed a Contemporary and Disco routine. In their seductive Contemporary routine, Kayla played the mistress of a married man, Brandon. The judges said it was exquisite and, in the words of Lil’ C, “beyond amazing.” Their Disco routine, filled with tons of tough lifts and flips, received just as many praise.
Melissa and Evan matched up for two fast-paced dances: Broadway and the dreaded Quick Step. The judges had mixed opinions about both routines; some expected more, others thought they were very entertaining. Overall, they had more positive comments about their Broadway number.
The girls closed the performance show with a super fun routine in which they all played female superheroes. While most of the judges liked it, one judge expected just a little more strength in their dancing.
Elimination
America voted and determined the top 4 dancers who will be competing in the finale for the title of America’s Favorite Dancer: Jeanine, Brandon, Kayla and Evan. Unfortunately, two of this season’s strongest dancers, Melissa and Ade, had to say goodbye.
