This week on So You Think You Can Dance, the top 16 couples took to the stage with some strange and unusual performances.
Performances
Jonathan and Karla opened the show with a Dave Scott hip-hop routine. After last week’s amazing contemporary routine, the judges weren’t impressed. There was no chemistry, no synchronicity, and they didn’t find their “inner gangster.”
Asuka and Vitolio performed what choreographer Mandy Moore called “trash rocker jazz.” The judges were divided: Mary liked their performance, while Nigel expected more.
Melissa and Ade danced the Rumba, choreographed by Tony Meredith. The judges were impressed by this dynamic duo, as they seem to shine week after week.
Jeanette and Brandon brought a little rock n’ roll to Dave Scott’s hip-hop routine. Brandon impressed the judges with his popping and locking, while Jeanette revealed her inner punk rockstar.
Kayla and Kupono teamed up for a Viennese Waltz by Juan Marc Genereux. As always, the judges complimented Kayla on her beauty and fluid dance moves, calling their performance beautiful and elegant.
Evan and Randi landed an interesting routine by quirky choreographer Mia Michaels. The dance focused on Randi’s butt, and the judges had a few buts of their own. They thought it was simple, but beautifully danced.
Caitlin and Jason tackled the paso doble by Juan Marc Genereux. While the music lacked rhythm, the judges thought their dancing was strong and fearless.
Jeanine and Philip closed the show with a Broadway routine by Tyce Diorio. It was an improvement over last week’s Tango disaster, but there was still room for growth, especially in Philip’s technique.
Elimination Results
Asuka and Vitolio, Karla and Jonathon, and Caitlin and Jason landed in the bottom three. The judges split the couples once again, sending Asuka and Jonathon home.
