It’s 2009 and the fashions and styles of Gossip Girl’s leading gentlemen are still the talk of the town. Each male character on the show has his own unique style, be it laid-back, classy or quirky. Now Kidzworld helps you learn how to get the look of the guys from Gossip Girl!
Nate Archibald
More dreamy than McDreamy, Nate Archibald has a lot going for him, from enviable eyebrows to porcelain veneers to pouty lips. His modern preppy style has Nate sporting such fashions as a classic-fitting pima cotton placket long-sleeved pullover in navy from Ralph Lauren. You can get Nate’s look (or dress your boyfriend up Nate-style) with V-neck sweaters or vests over vibrant button-down dress shirts, any light-weight sweater (especially one from Ralph Lauren), pullovers, cricket-cable sweaters, etc.
Of course, no sweater-look is complete without the right pair of pants (trust us – no pants and you’ll get noticed for all the WRONG reasons). Try Nate’s button-fly premium chinos from J. Crew in British khaki. In the denim department, Nate works both high-end and mid-range levels, including Slim Jim jeans from Nudie (HUGE with guys right now) or standard-fit jeans from Gap with slight whiskering and washed-out knees for a vintage look.
The preppy handbook also requires sports coats, which Nate wears almost 50% of the time. A slim-fit, single-button, notched-lapel jacket in navy or black from Hugo Boss works for all occasions, especially when you add a pair of Harding Panel lace-ups from Johnston & Murphy.
Dan Humphrey
Compared to the rest of the prep school characters on Gossip Girl, poor Dan is, well, poor. Still, his style is solid, making good use of the basics. Earth tones are big for Dan, who may as well be called the king of khaki. He loves khaki pants and chinos, whether a pair of flat-fronts from Perry Ellis or rugged chinos with a fuller leg from Banana Republic. Both work great with brown suede shoes and a casual leather belt.
For fancier occasions, Dan sports button-down striped shirts from Marc Jacobs – both tucked and untucked. But when things go casual again, you can see this middle class hunk in American Apparel tees topping a pair of his trusty chinos.
Jeans are essential for this teen, and Dan tends to go for Levi’s 501 Originals and AG Jeans Protégé straight-leg jeans. But one of his fave pieces is his signature Boss Black Copper-D over-dyed jacket in deep tan with a mandarin collar, shoulder apaulets, four flap pockets and a full-button front for a slightly military vibe.
Chuck Bass
Bad and cocky Chuck Bass has some luxurious fashion preferences – so much so that his look almost feels vintage. He rocks his signature scarf with sexy style and confidence – which is probably the most important element in making any look work for you.
Besides the scarf, we’ve seen Chuck rock sensuous striped silk jammies on the show, a sorta-emo newboy cap, nerdy-on-anyone-else bowties, pink sweaters, paisley velvet pants, turtlenecks, some pretty rockin socks (green-and-white anyone?) and the infamous orange trench coat. His suits are fitted (and come in a rainbow of colors), and while we’re not quite sure where you can get any of Chuck’s signature pieces, you may want to try your local vintage clothing store to put together a look similar to his.
