Keep up-to-date with all the latest video game releases! For this week, we preview Boom Blox Bash Party, Spore Hero, and Punch-Out!!
Punch-Out Returns!
Based on the classic NES title, Nintendo's big Wii game for this half of 2009 is Punch-Out!. The gameplay is somewhat similar to the original but with the always awesome Wii controls, and even more hilarious characters. From Glass Joe to King Hippo, all the old fighters are back, but in some really nice and stylish 3d graphics. Also big is the split-screen boxing gameplay, which I would say is like Wii Boxing but you cacn tell what's going on when you punch a certain way. One of the biggest Wii games to come out for a while.
Boom Blox is Back!
Boom Blox, the successful puzzle game from last year developed with Steven Spielberg, returns this week with Boom Blox Bash Party. All-new levels, more multiplayer, and the ability to make your own layouts make this potentially another must-own on the Wii. One of my favorite multiplayer modes is Baseball, which lets you throw balls at a Jenga-like layout of blocks, and see which player can knock over the most with the fewest pitches. If you've never played a Boom Blox game before, you have got to play this game, hopefully with a few friends.
Yet More Spore!
This fall, Wii and DS owners will get even more Spore action with Spore Hero and Spore Hero Arena! These new titles will keep all the creativity that made the original game great with new action-adventure gameplay. The Wii version, Spore Hero, casts the player as a creature trying to save their own planet from destruction via dark forces. You have to complete the missions and puzzles necessary to win, with collectible parts to keep you customized. The DS version has the player create their own gladiator to travel from planet to planet fighting for their lives. This sounds like a really great gameplay idea for the terrific creature creating tool we've already seen in Spore.
Spore Hero and Spore Hero Arena will be available fall 2009. Check out this teaser trailer for the new games!
