Expansion Team, the latest CD from Dilated Peoples, is tight. The album is full of rich beats, smooth rhymin' and skillful scratching that's enough to make anyone want to break out the [kwlink]turntables[/kwlink].

The sound is fresh and different but it has an old skool rap sound similar to rap pioneers Run DMC, and is mixed with 70s style funk. It's hard to deny the talent behind the hip-hoppin' trio, especially at a time when hip-hop artists are a dime a dozen and sound like clones.

Part of what makes the groove on Expansion Team unique and appealing is the background music, samples and even video game noises used. They also add cool sound effects by scratching in the right spots of a song which adds to it - rather than scratching in spots that takes away from the track. One of the producers on the disc is ?uestlove of The Roots.

The first single Worst Comes to Worst is a really cool track with music that reminds me of a 60s tune by The Temptations. If you're lookin' for a cool sounding CD with great grooves from start to finish, give Expansion Team a try.
