Orphan Orangutans

Mar 20, 2009

More than 20 baby orangutans who were abandoned by their mothers got a new home to help them survive at a hospital and animal sanctuary called Orang Utan Island.

According to experts, it's hard for orangutans in Malaysia and South East Asia to survive, as the places they like to live in are often destroyed by people and forest fires. Illegal hunters are a third reason that the primates are one of the most endangered animals in Malaysia.

The baby orangutans that were left orphaned are now sleeping in little cots and being fed by the sanctuary staff. Once they are old enough, they are allowed to play with other orangutans before eventually going back to live in the wild.
