Prepare to hit the stage again! Rock Band 2 is going on tour with a finely-tuned version 2.0. Harmonix, EA, and [kwlink]MTV[/kwlink] have spent some valuable quality time listening to their fans and the results, are almost surprisingly exactly like the first version of the game, better but in somewhat subtle ways. Sorry [kwlink]PS3[/kwlink] and [kwlink]Wii[/kwlink] fans you’ll have to wait a while for the game to hit your platforms while the Xbox 360 gamers monopolize the leaderboards! Check out the deets in our game preview!
Instrument Upgrades
The drums have seen a major improvement with a new metal-plated kick pedal to stand up to the most [kwlink]grueling[/kwlink] sets; quieter, velocity sensitive drum heads that more accurately respond to your beats, and even cymbal and hi-hat expansion ports if you want to develop a thumping drum kit and take your rhythm skills to the next level altogether. The guitar/bass has a more precise strum bar with better response time; a built in sensor that allows you to [kwlink]quickly[/kwlink] and seamlessly make calibration adjustments on the fly; a new tilt sensor for maximum overdrive execution, a realistic looking new neck and guitar body; and not least, quieter buttons so you can rock out and not wake the neighbors! Even the microphone has been refined with more authentic styling and weight, plus real-time pitch, rhythm and phoneme detection rating systems that give your hand tapping tambourine and cowbell playing a more appeal for aspiring front men! We’ve Got Pics! Battle of the Bands
A brand new feature in this game is the Battle of the Bands mode. It lets you challenge [kwlink]anyone[/kwlink] on your friends list plus compete head to head against other player’s bands from anywhere on the [kwlink]planet[/kwlink]. Take your virtual band on a world-wide trip and rock every rock venue in a tour de force. But you can also be challenged by other bands trying to steal your thunder. Check out your band’s challenges on www.rockband2.com.Tour Challenges
Complete challenges as you follow your band’s career and play more difficult sets to unlock progressive levels. You can now jump between sets so you’re never locked into one really difficult set that’s kicking your butt off the stage continually; feel free to try another set to get warmed up and come back to the tough one later. Again, here the seamless integration is [kwlink]fantastic[/kwlink] as any song you’ve downloaded from [kwlink]Rock Band[/kwlink] may show up in your new Rock Band 2 set lists.World Tour
Single player mode has taken a group turn, in that you can now play as any member of the band playing any [kwlink]instrument[/kwlink] - there is no “I” in “band”. Single player mode will never be the same as you can play alone, with friends at your house or with players around the [kwlink]world[/kwlink] as your band to track through your band’s career. Rare Opportunity Gigs give you massive payouts if you rock them; imagine recording a music video with your band on a soundstage! Hire staff to help with the shows: Promoters, Lawyers, Sales Staff, all of these folks contribute to your musical succeeds. What are you waiting for? There are 59 venues in 24 cities – get out there!DLC Content & Compatibility
The most important feature to note here is that this game will NOT exclude the original Rock Bands downloaded song content. This game is completely backward compatible so all of the [kwlink]golden[/kwlink][kwlink310]music you’ve spend hard-earned points on will be available for play in Rock Band 2!!! Love it!Drum Trainer
We can’t say enough good things about the [kwlink]drums[/kwlink] and the new kit so we’ll just keep going here. With the new kit you’re going to be playing what could be the most realistic “virtual” drum kit around with a training mode that actually translate to playing the real [kwlink]drums![/kwlink] With an entire library of drum fills and samples you will learn to rock out like your favorite drummers from a massive collection of bands. Why stop there? Freestyle drumming mode lets you jam out with any song in your media player. The drums are usually a daunting instrument to learn for the rhythmically challenged, but with these improvements we just don’t know how it could be any better.Rock Shop
An upgraded Rock Shop sells everything from retro to [kwlink]punk[/kwlink] to thrift goodies to round out your stage [kwlink]costume[/kwlink] customization options. Need a new rocker face?
