Growing Up
Reggie Bush grew up in Spring Valley, CA, a suburb of San Diego. His biological dad was never a big part of young Reggie's life and he was raised by his mother and step father. At the age of nine, Reggie began playing Pop Warner football and in his first game, Bush ran for over 300 yards and scored seven touchdowns! Though he living in San Diego, he cheered on the San Francisco 49ers. When Reggie entered Helix High School, he was already a fully-tuned athletic machine. During his high school career, Reggie rushed for 4,995 yards and scored 450 points. Reggie was also high school teammates with current 49ers quarterback, Alex Smith. As a senior, Reggie was named a Parade Magazine All-American and signed with college powerhouse USC.USC
When Reggie arrived on USC's campus in the fall of 2003, it didn't take him long to establish himself. Right away, Bush proved he could run, catch, throw and return the ball. Bush set a school record by accumulating 1,331 all-purpose yards and was named a Freshman All-American. As a sophomore, Reggie was named to the All-American team and finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting. The next year, Reggie was hands down the best player in college football as he gained 2,611 all-purpose yards and scored 18 touchdowns for the Trojans. Despite losing to Texas in the Rose Bowl, Reggie was named the 2006 Heisman Trophy winner. That spring, Reggie was picked second overall in the 2006 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints.Pro Career
Reggie's career with the Saints had its share of ups and downs. Although he gained 141 total yards in his first NFL game, he was used primarily as running back, Deuce McAllister's backup. Bush did not score a touchdown until midway into the season. For the year, Reggie averaged 3.6 yards per carry and scored six rushing TDs. The next season, Bush rushed for a respectable 581 yards and scored four touchdowns but again, he fell short of high expectations. Coming into year three with the Saints, Bush is still McAlister's backup and the Saints are a disappointing 1-2 to start the season.Future
Even though Reggie's NFL career hasn't panned out to stardom yet, many believe he will one day be one of the best running backs in the league. Bush possesses lightning quickness along with an array of crafty moves. He is only 23 and will eventually be the primary RB of the Saints. Along with his football talents, Reggie is also very charismatic. He is dating reality TV star Kim Kardashian and has even appeared in a Ciara video. Reggie is second to Peyton Manning in endorsement deals. Bush is sponsored by adidas, Pepsi, Subway and GM. In 2007, he was the cover athlete for NCAA Football '07.Did U Know?
Reggie Says...
"Pressure to me now has become almost part of my life. It doesn't really affect me anymore. People talk about me being under pressure or having pressure of having to come in and be this great player that everyone expects me to be right away. It doesn't really faze me. It's become second nature now. It's almost like it would be weird not to have it."Related Stories:
