Magi-Nation Duel :: Trading Card Game Review

Dec 27, 2006

The Moonlands are in trouble. People's dreams (and dream creatures) are getting twisted into nightmares. The shadow mages of the Core (an evil realm beneath the Moonlands) are wreaking havoc and spreading evil across the Moonlands. Magi-Nation Duel tells the story of the battle, a story that YOU help create by fighting for your fave team. It's up to you to join the battle - will you save the Moonlands or destroy them? The choice is yours with Magi-Nation Duel.

Magi Nation: Duel is a collectible card game where each card represents a powerful mage, dream creature, relic or spell that you can use to defeat your opponent. The cards are organized by the different lands. There's Naroom, with its forests and creatures. Orothe, the watery empire. There's also Cald, the land of fire and the aerial kingdom of Arderial, as well as the underground kingdom of Underneath. There's even the shadowy Core lands.

It's up to you to choose three mages, build them a deck of spells, creatures and relics and challenge other players to duels. Practice your skills so you can compete in tournaments - tournaments decide what happens in the Moonlands story. If you win a tournament as a red-hot Cald mage, then Cald mages will become heroes in the story.

When it's time to duel, you play your mages, energize them with power points and use those points to play cards. The cards let you attack with creatures, destroy other cards and reduce your opponent's power. The first player to KO all three enemy mages wins. It's fast, easy and the only problem is keeping track of all the power points - you need counters to keep track.

The Magi-Nation games are beautiful and Magi-Nation Duel is no exception. The funky anime-ish artwork really brings the characters and story to life. Check it out at www.magi-nation.com and see for yourself.

How Hard Is it?

It's pretty easy to learn - check out the tutorial here. But it's as hard as your opponent when you play.
