Katy Perry :: One of the Boys
Katy Perry gained notoriety as being a fave of Perez Hilton because of her envelope-pushing lyrics and anti-pop style. Ur So Gay was her first hit and as the buzz kept growing louder, her face popped up more and more as her fame grew. With the release of One of the Boys, Katy is set to capitalize on her popularity and sell some records, but truthfully, not much on the album meets the sassy, driving energy of Ur So Gay, or her equally controversial I Kissed a Girl. She’s doing a good job capitalizing on the media frenzy of gossip columns and pop star rehab stints, but she just comes off like an over-produced pop voice. Most of the songs sound like theme song for Gossip Girl or some other show, which isn’t a compliment.Fun Facts

Adele :: 19
Adele is part of a group of young European singers including Duffy, who seem ready to take Amy Winehouse’s Queen of Neo-Soul title while she battles her demons. Adele is a gifted songwriter, and her voice is bluesy, funky, and still feels like it has room to grow. Only 20, Adele avoided the lure of pop music and stayed true to her own unique style, which includes a little Fiest, and a little Regina Spektor. On 19, the only miss-step is Tired, which starts out with too much pop noise, but settles into a decent track. Her other big offerings are Chasing Pavements, [KWLINK 6855]Daydreamer, and Right as Rain, which all rival Winehouse’s gritty tracks on Back to Black, but aren’t quite as raw. This will go down as an incredibly talented artist’s impressive first release, and she’s sure to be a star.Fun Facts
