Alicia Keys CD, Songs In A Minor, is not your typical bubblegum pop. If you think her single, Fallin, has some serious grooves, wait til you hear the other jazzy tunes. Alicias got soul!
J Records (2001)Alicia Keys' CD, Songs In A Minor, is not your typical bubblegum pop. If you think her single, Fallin', has some serious grooves, wait 'til you hear the other jazzy tunes. Alicia's got soul!
The album is great cuz it has songs for all your moods. It'll pick you up with the jazzy grooves and take you down with its soft piano-based ballads and Alicia's soothing voice. Fallin' is a great song to kick back and chill to. It has a slow steady beat, and Alicia's voice conveys such emotion and maturity you would think she's older than 19.
Girlfriend is a funky upbeat song I'm sure a lot of us can relate to. It's about feeling jealous of your boyfriends' friend, who happens to be a girl. On track three, Alicia shows off her vocal range and adds her own touches to Prince's How Come You Don't Call Me, backed with some very funky organ sounds. Another great upbeat track is Rock Wit U. It's very 70s sounding.
Alicia sings a jazzy duet with Jimmy Cozier called Mr. Man. Like much of the album, this song also has a retro feel to it. Alicia's sound could be described as a cross between Stevie Wonder and Ella Fitzgerald.
If you like jazz, soul and hip-hop, then you'll love Songs In A Minor. It's still pop music, but it's a nice change from the pop that's been dominating the charts for so long. Alicia Keys has some serious talent.
