Blu Cantrell's Backstage Beginnings

Tiffany "Blu" Cantrell was born in Providence, Rhode Island. Blu Cantrell was really into music at a young age - especially jazz. Blu Cantrell's mom was a jazz singer and Blu had plenty of opportunity to see her in action because her mom couldn't afford a babysitter. Whenever she had a performance she would take Blu Cantrell and her siblings to the show. As a young adult, Blu Cantrell found comfort in music - it helped heal her broken heart from love gone wrong. Some of Blu Cantrell's biggest musical influences include Billie Holiday, Sade, Sting, Prince, Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston.

Blu Cantrell Makes Her Mark

Things started happening for Blu Cantrell during a visit to Atlanta where she met a couple of executives from RedZone Entertainment. They gave her demo a listen and Blu Cantrell was on her way! Blue Cantrell started singing background vocals, both in the studio and live, for artists like P. Diddy and Faith Evans. Soon the buzz about Blu Cantrell spread and the record labels came knocking. Blu Cantrell snagged a record deal with Arista Records and released her first album in 2001 called So Blu. The first funky, jazz single, Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!) is getting big play on dance radio and the video's a hit on MTV. Blu Cantrell's newest album, Bitter Sweet, is due out in late 2003.
