Jason Kidd Growing Up
Jason Frederick Kidd was born March 23, 1973 in San Francisco, California. He grew up in Alameda, near Oakland, and the first sport he started playing as a kid was soccer. By the third grade, Jason Kidd was spending more time on the b-ball court than the soccer field. He started shooting hoops with older kids on the playgrounds of Oakland and began to develop his amazing passing instincts. After winning the Naismith Award for being the top high school hoopster in America, Jason Kidd went to college at the University of California at Berkeley in 1993. Kidd led the Golden Bears to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in his freshman year and was named the Pac 10 Player Of The Year after his sophmore season. With his creative passing and amazing vision of the court, Jason Kidd made an immediate impact in the NBA. Kidd helped the Mavericks win 23 more games than they did the year before and shared Rookie Of The Year honors with Grant Hill of the Detroit Pistons. After two seasons in Dallas, Jason Kidd was traded to the Phoenix Suns, where he continued his rise to NBA stardom. He led the NBA in assists in 1998 and was named to the league's First All-Star Team. In 2001, after another early playoff exit, the Suns traded Jason Kidd to the New Jersey Nets. Kidd was a savior for the Nets who had an NBA bottom-feeder for years.
