In 2004, the Boston Red Sox finally broken the Curse of the Bambino and they did it again in 2007. Check out some of these other spooky sports curses.
Sports Curses - The Bambino
The Curse of the Bambino has led to more than 80 years of misery for Boston Red Sox fans. It all started when the Red Sox traded Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees in 1920. At the time, Babe Ruth, also known as the Bambino was one of baseball's greatest hitters and had helped the Red Sox win a World Series in 1918. But in 1920, Harry Frazee, the owner of the Sox, needed some money to pay for his girlfriend's Broadway musical, so he traded Ruth to the New York Yankees for $125,000 and the Curse of the Bambino was born. Since then, the Yankees have won 26 World Series titles, and the Red Sox have suffered through years of disappointment. But in 2004, the Red Sox got some revenge of their own with their amazing come-from-behind victory in the American League Championships Series against you guessed it, the Yankees. The Red Sox went on to win the World Series and the curse of the Bambino was finally dead. They became World Series champions again in 2007.Sports Curses - The Billy Goat
In 1945, William "Billy Goat" Sianis tried to bring his pet goat, Murphy, with him into Wrigley Field for Game Four of the World Series. Ushers at the game said the goat was too smelly and told Sianis he had to leave. To retaliate, Sianis cast a "goat curse" on the Chicago Cubs by saying, "Cubs, they not gonna win anymore". The Cubs lost the 1945 World Series to the Detroit Tigers and haven't made it to a World Series since. The "goat curse" still seems to be alive. How else can you explain the Cubs blowing a three-run lead in Game 6 of the 2003 National League Championship Series against the Florida Marlins?Sports Curses - New York Rangers
The New York Rangers were spooked by a curse that kept the team without a Stanley Cup for 54 years. In 1940, the Rangers won their third Stanley Cup. After that season of triumph, the Rangers finished paying off their mortgage at Madison Square Garden and celebrated by burning the mortgage papers in the Stanley Cup. Those ashes were believed to have triggered a curse which prevented the Rangers from ever winning the cup again. The hex lived on for 54 years, until the Rangers finally won their fourth cup in 1994.Sports Curses - The John Madden
It appears that players receive a hex if they appear on the cover of the Madden Football video games. The last four players who have appeared on the cover of the game have suffered serious injuries or a poor season. Michael Vick appeared on the cover of Madden NFL 2004 and missed the first half of the season with a leg injury. In 2003, Marshall Faulk appeared on the cover of the game, a year after becoming the first player to gain 2004 yards in four straight seasons. The next season he injured his ankle and started in just 10 games. After Daunte Culpepper appeared on the game's cover in 2002, he suffered a knee injury and threw a league-high 23 interceptions. Coincidence? We think not.Related Stories:
