This One is For the Ladies... er, women

Hey everyone!

My mom informs me that it's Women's Equality Day today, which (correct me if I'm wrong) has something to do with the anniversary of women getting the right to vote. In honor of this big day, I just want to say a big "what's up" to all the ladies out there. Happy Equality Day!

Now on to the serious business of back to school:

  • What are y'all going to be wearing back to school? It's time to start brainstorming your look so check out these ideas!
  • The what-to-wear dilemma might be a little easier if you go to a school that has uniforms, but there are still lots of ways to personalize your look.
  • When you think about it, your backpack is the most important part of your back to school look. What piece of clothing are you going to have with you more? Check out these awesome boys and girls backpacks that will add a little style to your look every day.
  • And finally - school supplies are about a lot more than pencils and rulers these days. Check out these awesome school supplies that will (almost) make you glad it's September!
  • Alright people, my work here is done. You can thank me for my helpful advice later; I have some final summer rays to catch.

    Olympic Unambition

    August 12, 2008

I still haven't really figured out what I'm "doing" with my summer vacations and it's almost time to head back to class. I'm a living example of what the phrase "you snooze, you lose" means.

Ah, but the sweet, sweet Olympic Games have given my life renewed meaning. Instead of my dad shouting, "Are you still in front of that darn TV?" when he gets home from work, he now says "What have I missed?" and sits down beside me. Thank you Olympics!

If you, like my dad, need a little a little Olympics update, here are some great articles to check out:

  • Top Five Olympic Mascots
  • Greece: Birthplace of the Olympics

  • Okay, I have to get back to the Olympics now. Let's talk soon about what you're wearing back to school this September. I seriously need some fashion help (do NOT tell my friends I said that!).

    Laters,

    Get Your Camp On!

    July 15, 2008

Oh man, the bad weather is just a distant memory and the sun is out! Why can't it always be this sunny? I guess I wouldn't appreciate it if it was always this nice. How is the weather where you live?

I'm going camping with my family in a few days, which is going to be wicked. I didn't even consider asking my mom if Emily could come (she has a pretty strict no girl sleepovers rule), but my buddy Ben is going to come and it'll be good to spend some time with him. We're going to do some fishing and my dad is borrowing my uncle's boat so we can wakeboard! Sweet!

If you're interested in giving wakeboarding a try this summer, here are some links to check out:

    Celebrate Your Independence!

    July 1, 2008

OK, I know I find it hard to feel independent when my mom still buys my underwear for me, but Independence Day is right around the corner so I'm trying to get in the spirit.

And how cool is it that the Fourth of July falls on a Friday this year? Hello long weekend! My fam is going to the lake for the weekend. What are you guys up to? Send me a comment and let me know!

Summer Time and the Living is Easy

    June 3 2008

Hey everyone, hope you're getting as excited about summer as I am. I'm really stoked to be finishing up the year, which makes it seriously hard to concentrate at school. I guess my brain thinks that it's already on vacation.

Emily is bugging me to go see Kung Fu Panda when it comes out on Friday, but I was worried it was going to be too girly. But I've totally changed my mind on that one after I saw this exclusive clip that Kidzworld has. Check it out below, it seems pretty funny.

So, other than checking out that movie, I'm planning on hitting heading to the lake this weekend for a little fishing with my dad. We haven't hung out for, like, ever. Now that I think of it, I really should have saved this outing for Father's Day.... but I guess it won't kill me to hang out with my day twice in one month. I guess I should figure out what to get him. What are you all getting for your dads? Comment me back and let me know!

    Here Comes the Sun!

    May 20, 2008

All of a sudden its summer! I mean, I think the technical start is still a month away, but all the major symptoms of summer are already present. Sunburned office workers on the bus? Check! Kids running through lawn sprinklers? Check! Me in a good mood? Check, check, check!

I'm pretty sure there's something in sunshine that is supposed to make people happy, which is why some people get Seasonal Affective Disorder in the winter. Which begs the question: what's the opposite called? Maybe I have "Seasonal Enhancement Disorder"?

So, if you can't tell, I'm in a pretty awesome mood. Things are going pretty well with Emily and I even had dinner with her family. I was kind of scared of her dad, but he turned out to be pretty cool once he found out I was into photography. It turns out he is too, so we mostly talked about lenses and other equipment for the rest of the night. It was almost too easy.

Once again, my mom is on my case about looking for a summer job. I was hoping to go back to the skate camp I taught at last year, but they're reducing the number of classes they're offering this year (doesn't anyone skateboard anymore?!) so I don't think that' going to happen. Are any of you going to work in the summer? Comment me back and let me know!

    Countdown to Summer Vacation!

    May 6, 2008

Hey Everybody! Hope you all had an awesome Cinqo de Mayo. My dad's family is Mexican so we went and had dinner with his side of the family. It was great.

Things have been going well with Emily and I guess you could say we're dating. We haven't had the official "are we GF/BF?" talk yet, but I think it's safe to assume that we are.

The weather has finally improved and it's actually starting to seem like spring. Y'all know what that means: time to hit the skate park! I've been working on a bunch of skating pictures for my photography class and they're actually working out pretty well. My aunt is a photographer and she gave me a bunch of tips about taking action shots and I'm stoked with how they're turning out.

Can you believe that it's only, like, six or seven more weeks until summer vacation? All of a sudden things are really looking up! Drop me a comment and let me know if you're already making summer plans.

    Happy Earth Day!

    April 22, 2008

Happy Earth Day, everybody! Today's the day to celebrate Mother Earth so I hope you all take a little time today to show your mama some love! I'm sure you know the score when it comes to "going green", but I'm just going to give you a run down of a few of the things I do to help out the environment. Have a look to see if it gives you any ideas ( or if you can think of other stuff I should do)!

  • I always recycle all of my glass, paper, cans, plastics, and cardboard.
  • I keep a reusable water bottle in my backpack so I don't need to buy plastic bottles when I'm out.
  • I put stuff in my backpack or another reusable bag when I buy it instead of getting a plastic bag from the store.
  • I compost fruit and vegetable scraps (ok, my mom does - but I put the scraps in a bin for her to compost later).
  • I pretty much walk or skateboard everywhere. I'm not old enough to drive, but I think I still get points for this one because I hardly ever ask my parents to drive me places.
  • We only use energy smart light bulbs in my house. I guess that's another thing my mom does... but I'm going to take credit for it!
  • That's all I can think of. How do you do your part to help the planet? Make sure to comment me back to tell me all of your ideas! I'm going to finish off this post with a ton of Kidzworld articles that will get you informed about the environment. Check 'em out!

    Peace out,
    Simon

    Rain Weary

    April 8, 2008

Is it just me, or has it been raining consistently for about eight months now? It's really hard to get up in the morning when all you can hear is the drone of rain against your window. Isn't it supposed to be spring? I've guess I've been feeling a little overwhelmed lately and the weather isn't helping. Things seem to be going well with Emily, but I'm so nervous about screwing things up that I even feel stressed out about that. Aren't relationships supposed to be easy? Maybe this isn't a good sign.

It really doesn't help that I have a big history test looming and my notes are so disorganized. Before I can even start studying, I have to wade through heaps of paper - some of which are seriously under my bed. Why do I let this happen over and over again? Ah! I totally frustrate myself sometimes.

Do you guys just get totally overwhelmed with life sometimes? Like when nothing crazy is happening, but all the little things just get to you? Leave me a comment and let me know how you deal. And while you're at it, I could use some study tips!
