An Olympic Volunteer in the Making

August 19, 2008

So I'm thinking about volunteering for the next Olympics. It came to mind while I was watching the swimming competitions and noticed those volunteers who hand out towels to the athletes at the end of each race. I could do that!

Just think about it - you could watch the events while waiting to hand out your load of fresh towels to the swimmers. Sounds fun and easy, if you ask me.

If any of you are interested in volunteering for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver or the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, go check out Volunteering for the Olympics on the KW site.

Countdown to the Olympics!

August 5, 2008

The Summer Olympics start in just three days!

I'm looking forward to watching all the water sports events... especially swimming... especially Michael Phelps! Think he'll win six gold medals like he did during the '04 Olympics in Athens?

I also want to check out Dara Torres. At 41 years old, she's pretty old for an athlete, but she beat the American record in the 50 meter freestyle at the Olympic trials! You go, girl!

Can't wait to tune in!

Got a New Bathing Suit!

July 22, 2008

Hey, have you guys checked out Kidzworld's Bathing Suits to Fit Your Body article? After reading it, I just had to get my hands on the skulls and crossbones tankini set from Alloy! I bought it online last week, and it came in the mail today! It's even more cute in person, and it wasn't very expensive either. The tankini was on sale for $22.50 and the bikini bottoms were $19.50.

Can't wait to hit the beach and test out my new suit. I'll let you know how it holds up. Anyway, hope you're all havin' a great summer vacation so far!

Shopping for Swimsuits

July 8, 2008

So I need to buy a new bathing suit. One that's cute AND flattering. My old one is so faded and old-looking that it's bordering on gross. But it's so hard to find the perfect suit!

Have any of you taken Kidzworld's quiz on finding your swimsuit style? I just took it and I got athletic style, which makes sense since I need a suit that can handle the big waves when I'm out surfing. If you haven't taken the quiz yet, go do it right now! Here's the link - Quiz! What's Your Swimsuit Style?

Drop me a comment and let me know your results!

The Start of Summer Vacation!

June 24, 2008

So I've recovered from the prom incident and learned my lesson - never, ever buy anything from the mall again! Actually, that's being a little extreme. I'll still buy stuff at the mall, but I'm gonna try shopping more at vintage shops and thrift stores from now on.

Anyway, school is over and my summer vacation has officially started! What to do, what to do...

Well, I definitely have to get myself a job, or else I'll be broke and won't be able to go shopping or watch any of the movies I've been dying to watch, like Kung Fu Panda and Indiana Jones. I figure I could work at the surf shop with Finn again. That would be ideal so that we can sneak in some surf sessions on our lunch breaks and stuff. I kinda want to try something different this summer though, like working at the zoo or the local thrift shop, which would be cool cuz I'd get great discounts!

Are you guys gonna look for a summer job? Or are you going somewhere cool with your family? Drop me a comment and let me know how you're spending your summer vacation!

What Happened on Prom Night...

June 10, 2008

So prom was last weekend. It started off great - the music rocked, I was dancing and having fun with Finn and my friends, and I knew I looked fabulous in my new black dress! And then the worst thing imaginable happened...

... another girl showed up wearing the exact same dress as me! I have no idea who she was. I think she came as one of my classmate's date. I thought about the classic move of pouring punch down her dress so that she would have to leave the dance, but that would've been way too mean. Luckily, we were wearing completely different accessories, so we looked somewhat different. I was wearing flats; she was wearing wedges. I had on lots of funky bracelets and necklaces, whereas she wore a single strand of pearls. Plus, I made sure we were always on opposite ends of the room. Needless to say, I didn't have a great prom cuz I was too focused on that girl and not on having a good time with Finn.

Has anything like this ever happened to you? Have you ever shown up at a party, and someone there was wearing the exact same thing as you? I thought it was pretty mortifying and I'd like to hear what you guys think. Drop me a comment and let me know!

A Memorable Memorial Day Weekend

May 27, 2008

The sun's been out full force these days, so I'm totally soakin' it up. I don't think I spent a single second of my Memorial Day weekend inside the house!

I did the usual - headed down to the beach to surf and play volleyball with Finn and a few of our friends. My mom showed up later to set up a BBQ for us. I think I stuffed myself with way too many burgers and hot dogs cuz I fell asleep on the beach, only to wake up half an hour later with really bad tan lines from my bathing suit straps! Ugh, food coma is the worst! I wouldn't normally make such a big deal out of this, but prom's coming up in a couple of weeks and I don't want to show up with these ugly lines across my back and shoulders. I've gotta even out this tan quick!

Speaking of prom, I have to update you on my prom dress shopping trip. I found a really cool dress at one of my favorite stores in the mall. In my size! On sale! Can you believe my luck? It's a short and strapless black dress, with lots of tiered layers. It's pretty classic, so I'm gonna need some bold shoes and jewelry and then I'll be set.

So did y'all have a fun and relaxin' Memorial Day weekend? Drop me a comment and let me know what ya did!

Peace Out, Sindy

It's Prom Season!

May 13, 2008

So I'm finally feelin' well enough to hit the mall in search of the perfect prom dress. I'm actually panicking cuz most of my friends already bought their dresses, but I haven't even thought about what to wear!

I checked out Kidzworld's Style Street section to get some ideas on trendy prom dresses this year. I really like the thought of wearin' a black dress that's full of studs and sparklin' rhinestones - after all, what better way is there to stand out on prom night? I also kinda like the ombre effect, but it reminds me of tie-dye, which I think was a horrible '80s trend! So at least I have a couple of ideas to work with when I go shopping today.

By the way, what'd you guys do for your moms on Mother's Day? I made breakfast for my mom, complete with blueberry pancakes, crispy bacon, scrambled eggs and a banana smoothie. It's totally yummier and healthier than coffee, which she drinks way too much of.

So anyway, back to prom - what're you wearing to your prom? Are you buying a dress, borrowing a dress, making a dress... ? Leave me a comment cuz I'm dying to know!

Sick Sick Sick

April 29, 2008

Just when I think this is the beginning of a great spring, I get sick!

I must've caught a cold when I went surfing with Finn a couple of weeks ago. Ever since then, I've been coughing and sniffling and sneezing... ugh!

I've been stuck at home cuz I'm feelin' too sick to go out these days. It's like déjà vu of my boring spring break, which really sucks. I'm trying to get better as quickly as possible so I can hang outside and enjoy the warm weather with my friends. I've taken every kind of cold medication I can find, but nothing seems to work. I'm still coughing and sniffling and sneezing like crazy!

Do you know of any natural remedies that'll work wonders and make my cold go away once and for all? Drop me a line and let me know!

Finally Feels Like Spring

April 15, 2008

After weeks and weeks of rain, the sun's come out and it finally feels like spring! It's about time... after all, the first day of spring was about a month ago!

It seems like ages since I've gone surfing, so Finn and I hit the beach on the weekend. The water was still pretty cold even though we had on wetsuits, but we really didn't mind... we were just so happy to surf in the ocean and chill at the beach on a warm, sunny day after all that miserable rain!

I've also been busy with my other passion - volunteering at the SPCA. Dog-walking is a lot of fun, but I'm also interested in helping out in other ways, so my supervisor suggested I get involved with SPCA Day this year since it's the 142nd anniversary since the organization was founded. I never knew about it before, but it's a day to dress up in orange colors to raise awareness in your community about preventing cruelty to animals. Did any of you go orange for SPCA Day this year?

Anyway, that's it for me now. Drop me a line with your blogging questions, what you've been up to, or anything else you wanna fill me in on!
