Evan Baxter (Steve Carell) is a newly voted-in congressman looking to change the world. Little does he know, God (played by Morgan Freeman) has bigger plans for him than he may be ready for. Is Evan Almighty a movie of epic proportions or does it get washed away with the forecasted flood? Find out with Kidzworld's DVD review!
Evan Almighty - Are You There God?
The Baxter family has faced some
big changes. With Evan being voted into congress, his wife and three boys are forced to
pack up and head off to Washington to start
their new life. Workaholic Evan is not making the adjustment easy on his kids either. When he's offered a chance to support an important bill on his first day at work, he knows he has to jump on it - even if means bailing on his family's planned
hiking trip. His wife (played by
Gilmore Girls' Lauren Graham) is at her wits end and prays that her family
will be closer and urges her husband to pray too.
Evan Almighty - Devine Duty
Evan isn't a big believer, but figures it can't hurt to give God
a shout out. The very next day, things in Evan's life start
getting weird. His alarm clock keeps going off at
6:14, even though he's set it for 7:00, deliveries of wood start to arrive at his house and he's followed to work by
pairs of animals. When a mysterious man claiming to be God visits him and tells him to
build an ark, Evan is certain it's just the pressures of his
new job that are getting to him!
Evan Almighty - Sailing the Seven Seas
As Evan realizes that all the
strange happenings in his life are going to continue unless he builds an ark, he
rallies the troops to help him with his mission. Too bad everyone
thinks he's crazy! If Evan's bent on getting this boat done, he may just have to do it alone.
Evan Almighty - DVD Features
The Evan Almighty DVD
isn't stingy with the features. It gives you all kinds of goodies like an
interactive game called Animal Roundup and a featurette called
The Ark-itects of Noah's Ark. There are also cast interviews, deleted scenes and a behind-the-scenes look at the movie's
visual effects. Plus, it gives you all the
cute-animal eye candy you could want - and then some.
Evan Almighty - Bottom Line
Evan Almighty is a pretty
straight-forward re-telling of the story of Noah and the ark, with a bit of
modern-day tweaking. Steve Carell brings some laughs, but for the most part this flick is
a poor attempt at a feel-good
family flick.
