Sonic Riders: Gamecube, PS2 and Xbox Game Review
Courtesy of SegaSonic the Hedgehog is the speediest lil' blue dude in the world! He's been rippin' it up in video games for years and now he and his buddies, Knuckles and Amy Rose, are takin' it to the air with flying skateboards called airboards in the new Sonic Riders video game for Gamecube, Playstation 2, and Xbox. We review it right here!
Racing 101 in the Sonic Riders Video Game
It's racin' time with
Sonic and his buddies. The different
racers each have different
skills, from being able to fly, to being able to
grind rails for shortcuts, and even
super strength for smashin' through obstacles. Once you win a few races, you can
unlock more
racers and boards as you challenge Sonic's enemies to win a
Chaos Emerald!
Blazin' Speed and Kickin' Tricks in Sonic Riders!
Not only is it a
racing game, it's packed with
skateboard tricks that would wow
Tony Hawk himself! Pulling tricks when you grab air charges up your
Air Meter that lets you
boost your speed. Plus, when opponents are ahead of you, you can hop into their
slipstream for a
speed boost to catch up.
Crash 'n Burn With Sonic Riders
The first problem with
Sonic Riders is that the
instructions suck and there's
no tutorial level! Plus, once you learn the moves, you'll be struggling to keep your
Air Meter full so you don't crash out and half to
walk through the levels. Pullin'
tricks helps, but it's still frustrating.
Crossing the Finish Line in Sonic Riders
This game would be awesome, if it wasn't so
frustrating. Instead, it's an
OK game that's too
hard to learn to be worth renting. If you get really good, it's fun to play, but that takes a long time.
Sonic Riders Thumbs Up:
High-speed aerial racing mayhem!
Unlock racers and boards galore!
Sonic Riders Thumbs Down:
Learning the controls is tricky!
The different racer types aren't that different.
The race tracks are awkward.
