The Best Star Wars Video Games

Dec 18, 2017

By: Max Cannon

The Last Jedi is finally in theaters and we loved seeing the newest entry in the saga. But with the world of Star Wars reaching maximum hype, it may be a great time to revisit the best Star Wars games of all-time!

1. Knights of the Old Republic

While this topped our list last time, this game is so great that it's no surprise that it's still here! Initially an Xbox exclusive -- but now backwards compatible with Xbox 360 and Xbox One -- this RPG comes from the team responsible for the beloved Mass Effect and Dragon Age games. While certainly an amazing use of the Star Wars name, Knights of the Old Republic (often referred to as KOTOR) is an excellent game for those unfamiliar with the deep lore of Star Wars, though superfans will be more than pleased with the world building.

KOTOR's mobile port was something players could only dream of on the original Xbox.KOTOR's mobile port was something players could only dream of on the original Xbox.

One of the earliest games to really toy around with a morality system, players could determine whether their character found themselves on the dark or light side of the force. This sizeable adventure takes players all over the galaxy, to different planets, and cities that are surprisingly deep for a game made back in 2003. And for players willing to put up with the dated visuals, you'll be able to pick up the game on PC or mobile devices.

2. LEGO: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I've put hundreds of hours into over a dozen different LEGO games, sometimes I find myself getting burnt out on them but when things work well they really stick in my head. LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens impressively walked the line between nailing what it has done before and trying out some new things -- even if everything new didn't always work perfectly. Things felt fresh in LEGO's take on The Force Awakens which surprised me because not only are there a ton of LEGO games but there are also a handful of LEGO Star Wars games.

Of course, there is a lot of simplicity in this game but that's what makes this game so appealing to the entire family. LEGO games have always been enticing to parents and their kids but pairing it with the world of Star Wars does an even better job at bridging that gap. I would probably stand by the assertion that LEGO Dimensions is the best game in the LEGO-verse but as far as adaptations go I'd say that this trip to LEGO Star Wars is the most impressive.

3. Super Star Wars

One of the earliest Star Wars games I've played, the Super Nintendo's Super Star Wars is a charming but challenging game from the 16-bit era. Running through the events of the first movie, A New Hope, won't be a breeze because of the absurd difficulty known for most games at the time but it's undeniable how impressive the music and visuals are to really embody the Star Wars feel.

Players looking to try it out for themselves don't need to pull out an older console because of a recent re-release on PS4 that'll sure to be frustrating younger gamers for the first time but those that can push themselves through the struggle are in for a treat.
