Kingdom Hearts, the beloved mash-up of both Disney and Final Fantasy, is getting the long rumored Toy Story themed world added into the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 3. Not only did we see a reveal of the new world but we also saw some footage showing off Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and some awesome looking combat.
The Most Footage We've Seen Yet
The trailer opens with a quick peek at the world inspired by Disney's Hercules before heading over to Twilight Town that was first introduced in Kingdom Hearts 2 way back in 2005 (or 2006, depending on where you live.) The gorgeous looking game shows off some stylish combat that includes 6 party members total if you include the player character of Sora.
After fighting through both worlds, text appears on screen that says "Don't assume your dreams are just fantasy. If you can imagine a world, believe in it... dive in." A brief pause takes us to one of the most anticipated worlds in all of Kingdom Hearts: Toy Story. Woody and Buzz Lightyear were supposed to appear as a part of the magic summons in Kingdom Hearts 2 but they never made it into the final release, though the outlines of their characters were found by those savvy enough to look through the game's code.
Sora, Donald, and Goofy in Andy's Room
After Woody and Buzz's friends have vanished, Heartless began to appear throughout the world of Toy Story and a dangerous member of Organization XIII may have brought them with him, specifically Young Xehanort who is the main villain of the Kingdom Hearts games. Combat first starts from the moment Sora and friends walk out from underneath Andy's bed. Combat is flashy and quick, more similar to Kingdom Hearts 2 than the first game, and even adds a new ice move that allows Sora to slide across the map.
After taking out that first wave of Heartless we see our favorite Pixar heroes, Woody and Buzz with Ham, Rex, and some green Army men right behind them. To follow their hunch that the threat is coming from the new Galaxy Toys, Woody suggests they climb out the window and run down the street. Starting up on the roof, combat takes Sora flying down to the driveway and fighting in the yard with a special hammer stylized after Andy's pair of favorite toys.
Then the fight takes us over to Galaxy Toys and introduces the biggest change so far to the combat, vehicles. Hopping inside a giant robot, Sora is able to blast away enemies with an arm cannon or punch them down with a melee attack. Once one of Sora's fighting robots begins to bite the dust he's able to jump out of the cockpit and right into another robot, in the new gameplay he does it 3 times and shows off an assortment of different blasts.
After that, the things wrap up with Young Xehanort revealing what he's doing in this world, but that's a mystery that only begins at the end of this video. To many, the most exciting part of this demo is the 2018 release year, we'll be playing Kingdom Hearts 3 and hopefully sooner rather than later.
