Homemade Mother’s Day Gifts

May 01, 2020

Mother's Day is a day to celebrate your Mother and Grandmother and all they've done for you and if you play your cards right all they will do for you. The best way to play your cards is to make them a homemade gift.

Chances are she is going to love anything that has your homemade touch. Just look at her desk, I bet there’s still that macaroni frame you made her in kindergarten. And though I’m sure she loves it if you try that gift route again it might not be as adorable now that you’re a little older. Here are some ideas for some gifts she’s sure to adore now.

Teacup Planters:

These little decorative planters are great for Mom’s who love to garden or cook and they’re not too difficult or expensive to make. If you chose to use herbs the teacups will fit nicely in any kitchen or on a nearby windowsill so your Mom can use fresh herbs when she cooks. You just need some recycled teacups, which I recommend you don’t recycle from your mother’s collection, and a green thumb.

What You’ll Need:

  • Teacups
  • Seeds (herbs work best in smaller planters like these)
  • Soil
  • Water

What You’ll Need to Do:

  1. Wash the cups and fill them with soil.
  2. Plant the seeds in the soil. The depth in the soil and the distance between each seed will depend on the type of seed you are using, which is information you can get from the seed packet.
  3. Sprinkle some water on the newly sown seeds.
  4. Give them to your Mother on Mother’s Day.

If you don’t think your Mom would do well with plants then try making something she’ll never need to water. This tabletop decoration is something any Mom would love to receive on Mother’s Day.

What You’ll Need to Do:

  1. Gather the branches from outside. If they’re damp let them dry out.
  2. Cut 2 inch square pieces of pink tissue paper.
  3. Bunch the tissue paper square at the center to make a little flower.
  4. Glue the tip of your paper flower to the branch. Spread the flowers out or group them all together.
  5. Arrange the branch in the vase and give your homemade gift to your impressed Mother.

Most importantly don’t forget to give your Mom a big hug and to tell her that you love her. It might be cheesy, but it’s Mother’s Day and Moms like cheesy, so don’t be shy.
