Jazmin Whitley, the designer of the fashion line Li Cari, is only 19 years old, but has already designed six collections and has become the youngest designer to ever show at Fashion Week around the world! Kidzworld sat down to talk to this up-and-coming fashion designer - check it out!
Sindy: Hey Jazmin, congrats on showing at Fashion Week!
Jazmin Whitley: Thank you so much!
Sindy: How's it feel to be the youngest designer to show at LA and New York Fashion Week?
Jazmin Whitley: It's really exciting! It feels very rewarding!
Sindy: What were the best and worst moments at Fashion Week?
Jazmin Whitley: Definitely Times Square! We got to have a mini photo shoot right in the center of Times Square and that was so exciting! And also the show - I was the finale and I got to close the show at Fashion Week, so it was definitely a big moment. And the worst... when I was fitting all the girls for their looks, one of the shirts wouldn't fit on the model. I tried it on five different girls and it wouldn't go on because I made it really small and it didn't fit, so I had to cut it and change the whole look right there. It was so hectic, I was so nervous, it was not good!
Sindy: How would you describe your label, Li Cari?
Jazmin Whitley: My label is really classic and kind of like an old Hollywood glamour feel. It's more modern and wearable, but it's still really classic, sophisticated and feminine.
Sindy: Do you plan on expanding Li Cari to include men's wear or kid's wear in the future?
Jazmin Whitley: Yeah, right now it's just women's apparel. I'm kind of working on starting up a men's line, but I'm really focused right now on showing for my women's collection that I've been creating. And I love kids, so I definitely want to do a kid's line later on in the future.
Sindy: How did you come up with the name?
Jazmin Whitley: It's actually Italian and it's my grandparent's last name and it means "dear to your heart" in Italian, so it's very personal.
